CD8 and LD26 Musings

—Gabby Giffords was spotted at Raytheon showing her sympathy and support for striking workers. She didn't indicate a particular reason for siding with the strikers, just that whatever their position she was with them.

—Al Melvin announced at the last Pima County Republican Club meeting that he intends to run for the LD26 State Senate seat again in 2008.

—Pete Hershberger is rumored to be eyeing the LD26 Senate seat as well since he will hit his term limit in the House after this coming term. However, county and district Republican leaders are said to be upset with his alleged campaign partnership with Pasquiera, and frustrated with Pete's frequent defections to the Democrats during the legislative session.

—In another venue, Charlene Pasquiera was heard saying she plans to serve only one term. Her newlywed status was cited as one possible reason.

I personally would like to see Sen. Tim Bee go for CD8 in '08. I believe he would trounce Giffords. He is conserative yet appeals to many moderates and even Democrats have crossed over for him. Other than Graf, he is the only person I believe woud have a chance at this time and I would gladly back him.

Good grief! Why doesn't someone in the party show some moral fortitude and kick Hershberger's *ss out of the party?!?! Can't they see this is causing more damage to the GOP than the opposition Dems? Drive over to Pete's house, bang on his door and throw a voter registration paper in his face.

Anonymous,

That comment is ruled Out of Order!

Admiral Melvin is an automatic loss for the Republicans if he runs.

He is running so you can drop the if.

Since he IS running it might be more correct to say IF he beats Hershberger (or when, depending on your assessment of that contest.)

Hershberger will beat him.

Her name is Pesquiera, with an "E," not Pasquiera....

"Other than Graf"??????

Agree with you about Bee, but don't you think the Graf/Giffords scenario has been rather well settled? He got trounced against her in an open race. Now he would have to face her as an incumbent.

Was compelled to comment, but this point is moot. Graf will not try for CD 8 in 08. If Tim Bee does, and pours his heart into it and does it right, Giffords has cause for concern.

Plenty of it.

Graf is done. He is one clueless man and I'm grateful that he didn't win. His moves after his defeat show his true self - not pretty, but petty.

Did anybody see the guest opinion Pete Hershberger wrote in the Citizen? In the italics at the bottom of the piece, the Citizen identified him as a Democrat.

Fedup said: Giffords "will have no problem raising $2 million this time."

Dude! She raised $2.4 million during this campaign. As a non-incumbent. She could easily raise $3.5M or $4M this time, with the power of incumbency. And clearly, a lot of people in Cochise County like her. This support will not go away. The likeability factor is a formidable obstacle to any Republican who challenges her.
